OScommerce vs Zen Cart!
I am preparing to open a fish and aquarium supply store. First, it is the Internet-only (I plan on increasing retail and franchise locations beginning in about six months after go live my Web site). I'm in the process of deciding whether I should use OScommerce or Zencart. I myself do not know PHP, but getting a programmer to design the Web site, and maintain the products list / web site content with myself. I'm looking for the ability to add custom modules of my business is growing, so I'm leaning towards OScommerce. That said, however, I am also looking for a solution that will allow me to keep products, pictures, content, etc. without taking the time to find more than a basic understanding of PHP. With this in mind, should I go Zencart? There's more! I appreciate the input everyone!
Both Zen Cart and osCommerce will need to have at least a small understanding of PHP. In my opinion, osCommerce Zen Cart is superior in most respects. The only problem you might have would make a nice looking osCommerce site - it will take some time to learn how to osCommerce look nice. But that is not a real problem if you have someone help you. My blog is www.clubosc.com - do not hesitate to have a look - also on the Hot 100 (actually 60 or so, but have we) osCommerce store - the store that show just what can be done with osCommerce. http://www.clubosc.com/hot100/ My own experience shows that osCommerce is well suited for most ecomm site owners a little bit of backup from a decent coder, you can have a great experience here.
