AP Physics Motion Questions spherical?
A possible design for a space colony consists of a cylinder of width and length of 7 km 30 km floating in space. Its interior is provided with an earthlike environment and to stimulate the gravity, the cylinder spins on its axis. What should the rate of rotation the cylinder, in revolutions per hour, so that a person standing on the earth will experience the mass characteristics similar to those found on earth?
a (Centripetal) = v ^ 2 / r so v = (AxR) ^ (1 / 2) v = (9.81 m / s ^ 2 x 3500m) ^ (1 / 2) v = 185.3 m / TL is not linear radians by the way, idk if that is important. So the 7 km divided by 2 is the radius and again 1000 will put it on the meter. thats where I got 3500m and the centripetal acceleration is 9.81 m / s equal to the earths gravitational acceleration
